Garden Paths

Garden Paths will definitely enhance the look of any garden, regardless of the size of the garden. This is obviously where your creative side needs to take over and help turn your garden into a piece of art.

You can either be rigid and follow very formal lines or become artistic and go the informal route (like many of us). Choosing the formal scene, you would probably go for straight paths, straight rows in stiff beds, everything, according to the book.  The informal method is exactly the opposite.

If you are one for the more formal arrangement, then it won't look too stiff, when planting the paths in a straight line. On the other hand, the informal, would go crazy just thinking about it. As long as your garden paths are practical, it doesn't really matter what form or shape they take on. When it comes to curves, make sure that you have enough garden space to ensure that the rounding can be fully made!

There are a variety of garden paths that you can follow. Garden paths can be of gravel, stepping stones, dirt and even grass. Grass paths are often seen in some very lovely gardens, but may not work well in small gardens with limited space. On the other hand, a gravel path makes for a fine appearance.

Follow these steps to place stepping stones:

-Dig out the path for two feet

-Put in six inches of stone or clinker.

-Pack in the dirt, rounding it slightly toward the centre of the path.

Using gravel, will also ensure that the water that might gather due to watering the garden or rain is caught up and properly drained, not leaving your path with a soggy mess, especially when receiving guests.
